Caru Lins

Strongly influenced by Brazilian classical composers, interpreters and improvisers such as: Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes,  João Gilberto, Stan Getz, Elis Regina, Nara Leão, Joyce, Rosa Passos, Leny Andrade, Leila Pinheiro, Mônica Salmaso, Chico Buarque, Dorival Caymmi, Marcos Valle, among others. Caru Lins has also been motivated by the jazz greats: Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Muddy Waters, BB King and Blossom Dearie.

Anyone who has ever experienced a Caru Lins live show,  knows that in addition to her musical ingenuity, a great deal of charm and humor always play a big part. Despite her international career as a musician, she has stayed true to her brazilian roots.

 

Caru Lins, a Brazilian singer from Sao Paulo, graduated in Sociology and was certificated by the most excellent Chorus from Brazil, CORALUSP. Her speciality being Bossa nova and jazz. (She also sings in english, italian, french, spanish...)

 

She lived in London for five years (2004/2008) and performed at many different venues across the city including five star hotels, private parties and large events. She also played regularly at the most famous Brazilian locations in London, such as: Guanabara, Caipirinha Jazz bar and Made in brazil.

 

She used to play regularly at Morton's, private club in Bond Street, every thursday for 5 months, in 2005. Brown's Hotel, one of Londons top five stars hotels contracted her for 3 years and more impressively had regular gigs playing Bossa Nova, Samba and Jazz at some of Londons best Jazz hangouts: Pizza on the Park, Spice of Life, Pizza Express Soho and the most famous of them all Ronnie Scotts, to name but a few.

 

While living in London, she also had a band in Italy, travelling for concerts and gigs, where she played mainly Bossa Nova, Samba and some Jazz Standards.

 

In November, 2008 Caru was contracted to sing at one of Penang’s premier five star hotels, The G hotel, Malaysia. At the time she also participated of the Penang Jazz Festival, in January 2009. She performed there during four months, monday to saturday, 3 sets of 45 minutes, singing Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin Music and some POP also.

 

From Malaysia she moved to Panama(2009) and stayed there almost an year studying the latin music way of singing, performing now and then at the only Jazz House they have - Platea Jazz Bar, on thursdays evenings.

 

Finally she moved to Sweden - Stockholm, and stayed there for an year (2010/2011), continuing to study music and perform Jazz with different musicians at many different jazz venues in the city. Whilst living in Sweeden she also regularly sang back in London at Ronnie Scotts and Primo Bar, Westminster Plaza Hotel.

Back on the UK circuit since 2014 Caru Lins fills jazz venues again, including Ronnie Scotts, Primo Bar, Gonville 5 star Hotel, Jazz Festivals – as well as other jazz scenes around Europe - showcasing her particular musicality, allowing people to travel to a quieter world of deep emotions, sensations and joy, with the strains of traditional Bossa Nova and classical Jazz​.

​

Caru   now leads the Cambridge based   Brazillain music band Cores do Samba . The group explores the infectious, highly rhythmic, and uplifting music from Brazil including a mix of Samba, Bossa Nova, and funk, including songs by Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, João Donato, Tom Jobim, Baden Powell, Djavan, Joyce, Tania Maria, Ivan Lins.
